Aquaculture standards consultation extended

30 January, 2008 -

THE Global Aquaculture Alliance has extended the public comment period for its revised Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) standards development process to February 29.
The proposed process includes a new 12-member Standards Oversight Committee (SOC) that would coordinate the development of the BAP certification standards for aquaculture facilities.
In addition, the SOC would manage public input and ongoing revisions to the BAP standards. As proposed, committee members will include equal representation from nongovernmental conservation and social justice organisations, academic institutions and regulatory agencies, and industry.

The new SOC committee will formalise in early 2008. Nominations for its membership should be sent to BAP Standards Coordinator Daniel Lee by e-mail at dangaelle@aol.com or fax to +44-0-1248-716729.
Interested parties can submit comments online at www.gaalliance.org/comment3.html.
