Dawnfresh Seafoods acquires Scot Trout

09 April, 2008 -

UDDINGSTON-BASED processor Dawnfresh Seafoods has bought fish-processing and marketing co-operative Scot Trout for an undisclosed sum.

It has been reported that the deal will create a £70million-a-year business and ensures the ownership of Scot Trout - which employs 450 people throughout Scotland - stays in Scotland.
According to press reports, Scot Trout managing director Muir Hunter said the Scot Trout jobs, including about 80 at R.R. Spink and Sons in Arbroath and 20 at Grantown firm Daniel’s Sweet Herring, were as safe as they have ever been following the Dawnfresh takeover.

The value of the deal and the amounts going to Scot Trout’s seven shareholders were not disclosed.
Scot Trout, based at Bellshill, was formed in 1983 to supply trout and salmon from 17 Scottish farmers to high-street outlets.
