Biomass Analyst

25 September, 2008 - Salary £22,000 to £32,000

Since 1993 Marine Harvest (Scotland) Ltd has worked in partnership with Vaki to develop reliable and accurate biomass estimating systems for its salmon stocks. Throughout 2009 we will run large scale field trials using the Biomest Daily System, which has recently been developed for the Aquaculture Industry by Vaki. As a result we are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead the implementation of this high profile project throughout our marine sites on the West Coast.

Vaki are an innovative Icelandic company supplying technology based solutions to the aquaculture industry for over 20 years.
The Biomest daily system measures live fish weight, size distribution and growth in sea cages 24 hours each day.
Biomest daily employs Vaki submersible frames and associated hardware linked to a central computer with custom software to give direct, real time feedback. This information is continually updated to monitor growth and allowing any unusual changes to be identified and appropriate actions taken immediately.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate of a strong science or mathematical degree and will have competent understanding of basic statistics and excellent command of Excel. This position will report directly to the Seawater Production Manager and will have access to our Trials Unit Facility at Lochailort. The role will require frequent travel to all our farming locations on the West Coast and to Vaki, who are based in Reykjavik, Iceland. Owing to the widespread geography that the successful candidate shall work within we are inviting applications from all areas of the West Coast. This position will attract a company vehicle or car allowance and will be supported with a performance related bonus scheme.

This position offers the opportunity to work within one of the Aquaculture Industries leading companies and play a pivotal role in our Scottish Production Team.
