SCIENTISTS – FISHERIES, SCIENCE RESOURCES £20,700 - £23,800 + benefits Olton or Westbury-on-Trym
If you’re a fish biologist or fisheries scientist, looking to use your qualifications and experience in a demanding, practical, and worthwhile application, the Environment Agency can offer you the perfect role. We’re looking for experts to join our team of Fisheries Scientists to help protect, manage and enhance fisheries in England and Wales – contributing to changing practices through information gathered in scientific projects.
You will be aiding the decision-making process in many different parts of the Agency including Operations, and Policy and Process. Current and upcoming legislation will drive much of your work, including the Water Framework and new Aquatic Animal Health Directives, and you should have some knowledge of this legislative background. The work of the Fisheries Science team covers all aspects of fish biology and fisheries in English and Welsh waters, although we are looking to develop further the skill-base within the team in specific areas of fisheries science such as the efficiency of fish pass design, climate change impacts on salmonid and non-salmonid stocks, and the collation and reporting of fish stock statistics. If you have experience in these areas it would be an advantage.
With a strong interest in fish and fisheries evident from your CV, you’ll be a graduate in a relevant biological discipline and will ideally have a postgraduate degree too. It would also be an advantage if you were already a member of an appropriate professional organisation such as the IFM or EAFP.
