Hatchery Manager

03 September, 2009 - Located just outside Souris, PEI in Rollo Bay; Atlantic Sea Smolt Ltd. is the primary Atlantic Salmon smolt supplier to Ocean Legacy; one of Canada’s earliest pioneers of ocean-raised Atlantic Salmon. We are currently looking for an individual who is seeking an exciting career raising premium Atlantic Salmon throughout the early rearing stages of their life cycle.


Objective:

Reporting to the Director of Marine Production, the Hatchery Manager will be responsible for utilizing company resources: human, capital, equipment, supplies to produce safe, quality Atlantic Salmon juveniles in a cost-effective manner.

Key Tasks:

· In conjunction with senior management - develop working production plan, and related operating budgets to ensure company objectives are clear.
· Work closely with HR Co-ordinator to ensure hatchery HR policies are developed and clearly communicated and staff members are motivated toward company goals.
· Provide hands-on training and support to all new hatchery staff members to ensure consistency of orientation and training in such areas as: feeding, environmental monitoring, net maintenance, equipment operation, bio-security etc.
· Direct hatchery staff on related work shift including: contacting staff related to work changes, recommend corrective action as required.
· Maintain detailed and accurate daily hatchery production reports.
· Conduct fish weight sampling, grading and other related hatchery activities as required.
· Assist with receiving and delivering egg/juvenile shipments

The successful candidate will have a post secondary education in Aquaculture, management experience in a freshwater re-circulation Atlantic Salmon hatchery and must enjoy working individually or as a team in both inside and outside working conditions.
